280mm- Special Damascus clad Gyuto with super high grade snakewood Wa handle
This very special damascus clad Gyuto is mad from the high layer wrought, nickel and small amount of shim steel..... San mai with 1.2442 in the middle.
This one I wanted something different to expose the layers, so I have used a simple raindrop pattern, the trick was to as forge as close to geometry as possible, so this knife was forged then cold forged to within 0.2mm of final thickness, after just subtly ground following the forged hollows. This allows us to see the most exciting parts of the pattern here. Producing an incredible 3d effect especially when combined with the geometry. The handle is some of the very best snakewood I have ever seen, capped with horn and epoxy bedded internally for perfect fit and strength, Sealing internally minimises any shrinkage or subsequent cracking of this beautiful natural desert wood.
The bevel was brought to a mirror finish on the stones and it looks great with full or partial stone finish on the bevel. In this case the final finish is etched and polished, to detail the pattern.
The characteristics of this knife are incredible, laser like, exceptional food release, perfectly balanced whilst stiff. Effortless to use.
This knife also features my Gold leafed Logo, 24k Gold leaf permanently attached inside the logo, 24k Gold is very resistant to acids from food etc.
Blade length 279mm
Balance just ahead of heel.
Taper, straight taper, Spine - 5mm-1mm (Top of bevel)
Taper, hollow taper- heel - 5mm- 1.1mm(top of bevel)
Handle - Wa , epoxy bedded internally and highly hand finished in snakewood and horn.
The knife is made of carbon steels and iron and will attract patina, I recommend start this on something like roast beef, the carbon steel elements will go a lovely shade of blue, patina protects:)
