A beautiful example of my forged geometry in pure iron and 1.2442 core,
This one is long and slender , perfectly balanced so hides its 265g weight well. These to me represent the Goldilocks geometry figures, forging extreme taper both in length and into geometry means we can have a thick spine with no flex, and very very thin edge geometry whilst maintaining a crisp shoulder for release. Pure iron cladding is beautiful and it’s marks reflect its extreme plasticity in forging, and makes for an easy Kasumi finish with the core steel.
1.2442 has been a favourite of mine for over 10 years now, I have a long history of getting the most of tungsten steels, and with my studied proven approach I am able to use this steel with very minimal temper, it remains stable, has that glassy hard feel whilst being easy to maintain in san Mai. It gives a very aggressive edge, that is relatively hard to microchip, but the steel is very hard and you should take care around bones and grit.
This one with a nicely figured Desert ironwood Wa, desert ironwood is tough, and extremely stable, very unlikely to shrink or split.
